Through the wandering of two brothers, the story captures with dark humour and sensitivity the collective upheavals of a defining period.

MAIA – PORTRAIT WITH HANDS

Directed by Alexandra Gulea — 2023

An intimate documentary by Alexandra Gulea, Maia – Portrait with Hands has been praised in several international festivals for its poetic and original approach. The film explores Aromanian heritage through the story of the director's grandmother and the journey of her family, forced into exile by political violence. Blending proto-animation, puppet theatre and reenactments, it offers a journey through memory, identity and roots, where simplicity and connection to the land meet.
